Gregory A. Padrick #1896, Chief of Police

Chief Gregory Padrick serves as the Chief of Police for the DeKalb County Police Department, bringing more than 28 years of law enforcement experience and a lifelong commitment to public service. Prior to beginning his law enforcement career, Chief Padrick served honorably in the United States Marine Corps, where he developed the values of discipline, integrity, and service that continue to guide his leadership.

Throughout his career with DeKalb County, Chief Padrick has served in a wide range of operational and leadership roles within the Uniform Division, Criminal Investigation Division, Internal Affairs, and the Office of the Chief of Police. He has worked as a patrol officer, detective, supervisor, and commander, ultimately rising through the ranks to executive leadership and his appointment as Chief of Police. His investigative experience includes assignments in specialized units such as Homicide, Auto Theft, Narcotics, the High-Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Task Force, and Intelligence. He has also commanded both the Uniform Division and the Criminal Investigation Division, overseeing countywide operations, crime-reduction strategies, and major investigations.

Chief Padrick is a graduate of the FBI National Academy and has completed executive leadership training through the Southern Police Institute (SPI), the International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP), and the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police (GACP). He holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from American Military University and maintains multiple professional certifications through the Georgia Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) Council, including Executive Certification.

As Chief, he is committed to advancing a modern, community-focused policing model that emphasizes professionalism, accountability, innovation, and strong partnerships with residents, businesses, and community stakeholders. His leadership priorities include officer wellness, recruitment and retention, technology-driven public safety initiatives, transparency, and strengthening trust between law enforcement and the community.
Chief Padrick remains dedicated to ensuring DeKalb County is a safe and thriving community where residents, businesses, and visitors can live, work, and succeed.

(CALEA®), was created in 1979 as a credentialing authority through the joint efforts of law enforcement’s major executive associations. The CALEA Accreditation program seals are reserved for use by those public safety agencies that have demonstrated compliance with CALEA Standards and have been awarded CALEA Accreditation by the Commission.  The purpose of this public portal is to receive comments regarding an agency's compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status.
