Fire & Life Safety Programs for Everyone
DeKalb County Fire Rescue is committed to empowering our community with the knowledge and tools needed to stay safe. Through hands-on programs, school partnerships, community events, and targeted safety education, our team works to reduce preventable emergencies and strengthen preparedness across all ages. This page highlights the outreach initiatives designed to build awareness, support safer neighborhoods, and connect residents with life-saving resources.

- S.O.S. (Save Our Seniors) - Fire safety for independent living: cooking, heating, electrical safety, and escape planning
- S.A.F.E. - Fall prevention focusing on mobility, lighting, clothing, furniture, and home safety
- Child Passenger Safety - Car seat education and installation services with scheduled check events
- Safe Kids DeKalb - Comprehensive child injury prevention covering fire, water, road, poison, firearm, and home safety
- Smoke Alarm Program - Free smoke alarm installation and evaluation for DeKalb homeowners
- Hands-Only CPR - Chest compression training for emergencies (informational, not certification)
- Stop the Bleed - Trauma response and bleeding control using tourniquets and pressure techniques
- School Programs - Pre-K through high school presentations featuring canine demos, fire house tours, safety games, and more
- Xplorlabs - Fire science forensics and behavior education for middle and high school students
- Youth Firesetters - Intervention program for children showing risky fire behavior or curiosity
- Floor Warden Training - Prepares workplace leaders for fire drill support, evacuation guidance, and emergency roles
- Fire Drills - Scheduled practice drills coordinated with trained Floor Wardens
- Community Events - Participation in public fairs, festivals, and educational outreach events
- Spanish Language Interpretation - Programs and materials available in Spanish upon request
- Annual Events - PDK Day, Safe Kids Day, Fire Safety Fest, Burn Luncheon, and more
Nurse Navigator Program
In collaboration with American Medical Response, this program connects 9-1-1 callers with appropriate medical care based on their symptoms. You may be transferred to a Nurse Navigator who will help determine the best treatment path.
Station Tours & Demonstrations
Schedule station visits, fire safety demonstrations, or community presentations through our Public Education Unit. All programs are free for DeKalb County residents.
