DeKalb County Government is committed to providing fair and equal access to programs, services, and activities for everyone in our community.

Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 protects individuals from discrimination in programs and activities that receive federal financial assistance. Under Title VI, a recipient of federal funds may not exclude people from participation in, deny them the benefits of, or subject them to discriminationbased on race, color, or national origin.

DeKalb County Title VI Policy Statement

DeKalb County Government hereby gives public notice that it is the policy of the County to assure full compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, the Civil Rights Restoration Act of 1987, and related statutes and regulations, in all programs and activities.

It is our policy that no person in the United States of America shall, on the grounds of race, color, national origin, sex, age, or disability be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any of our programs or activities.

Although not required by Title VI or any related authorities, DeKalb County also assures that no person shall, on the grounds of sexual orientation or gender identity, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or otherwise be subjected to discrimination under any program or activity.

How to File a Title VI Complaint

Any person who believes they have been subjected to unlawful discriminatory practices under Title VI has the right to file a  formal complaint.

To file a complaint:

  • Complaints must be submitted in writing or in person to the DeKalb County Government Title VI Coordinator.
  • Complaints must be filed within 180 days of the alleged discriminatory act, or within 180 days of when the individual became aware of the alleged act.

Include as much detail as possible, such as:

  • Your name and contact information
  • The date(s) and location(s) of the incident
  • A description of what happened
  • Names of individuals or departments involved (if known)
  • Any supporting documentation (if available)
