Youth Development - Explorer Post 901
Ignite Your Future. Serve Your Community.
Explorer Post 901 is a hands-on training and mentorship program for DeKalb County youth ages 14-18 interested in fire service, public safety, and personal development.
Led by certified DeKalb County firefighters, our program offers real-world exposure to fire service life while building leadership, discipline, and community responsibility.
Our program focuses on five core areas of personal growth:
- Career Development - Learn what it takes to build a career in fire and emergency services
- Leadership Experience - Gain confidence leading teams and making decisions under pressure
- Service Learning - Participate in meaningful, community-focused projects
- Life Skills - Develop communication, teamwork, and emergency preparedness
- Character Education - Cultivate accountability, discipline, and respect for others
Once accepted, Explorers attend intensive cadet training at the DeKalb County Fire Rescue Academy including:
- Hose line evolutions and ladder techniques
- SCBA use and firefighter tool training
- CPR certification and first aid instruction
- Physical training and teamwork exercises
- Real-world firefighting scenarios
After graduating cadet training, Explorers are eligible for ride-alongs on fire apparatus, responding alongside firefighters to real emergencies and participating in station life and daily duties.
