Pet Registration & Licensing
DeKalb County requires the registration and licensing of certain pets to promote public safety, ensure rabies compliance, and help reunite lost pets with their owners. Licensing also supports animal services and enforcement efforts throughout the county.
Pet registration:
- Confirms compliance with rabies vaccination laws
- Helps Animal Services quickly identify and return lost pets
- Supports public health and animal welfare efforts
- Dogs
- Cats
- Ferrets
- Within 60 days of a rabies vaccination
- When moving into DeKalb County
- When acquiring a new pet that requires vaccination
Pet registration is administered through the county’s licensing system and may be completed using one of the following methods:
Online: Register or renew your pet license online using current rabies vaccination information.
By Mail: Print and fill out this Pet Registration Form. Along with the completed form, include the correct registration fee amount and a copy of your pet’s rabies vaccination certificate and mail to:

Fees & Renewals Registration fees vary based on the length of time since the rabies vaccination and other factors. Late fees may apply if registration is not completed within the required timeframe.
Pet licenses must be renewed to remain current and valid.

* Requires a 3-year rabies vaccination
** Save money by making an appointment to spay/neuter your pet at our low-cost clinics.
There is a $10 late fee if your license is more than 60 days overdue.
Registration of a classified dangerous or vicious animal is $250.

All registered pets must have a current rabies vaccination administered by a licensed veterinarian. Proof of vaccination is required for registration and renewal.
