Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, in partnership with the 100 Black Men of DeKalb County and the DeKalb County School District, presents the 5th Annual Lock-in for Life event to foster male youth development for students ages 13-18. The program provides middle and high schoolers with intense workshops, critical conversations, and positive male interactions, focusing on nonviolence, social skills and behaviors, mental health, and positive peer interactions.

DeKalb County celebrated the recent opening of the East Central DeKalb Community and Senior Center with a dedication ceremony and placement of a time capsule to mark the occasion on Monday, December 4. “This is a momentous occasion,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. “The center and time capsule will serve as reminders of the importance of improving the health, wellness and quality of life of our citizens.”

On Tuesday, Dec. 5, Commissioner Ted Terry (D-District 6) introduced a resolution calling for an immediate permanent ceasefire between Israel and Palestine. After the Oct. 7 terrorist attack by Hamas, an internationally designated terrorist organization, DeKalb County condemned the slaughter of innocent, unsuspecting civilians in their homes, communities and at the Nova music festival.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will offer a Winter Break Camp, Dec. 18 – 22, Dec. 26- 29 and Jan. 2 from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. The cost of the camp is $10 per day for children ages 5-12.
