DeKalb County Government is partnering with local faith leaders and community groups to distribute 5,000 boxes of Georgia-grown fruits, vegetables and chicken hindquarters on Saturday, Nov. 4. “Food insecurity is a countywide issue, and our faith leaders and community partners are helping us provide relief to struggling families throughout DeKalb,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. Additionally, residents will receive cookies, fruit juice boxes and cereal.

Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open three warming centers for residents on Tues. – Thurs., Oct. 31 – Nov. 2, starting at 8 p.m. each night to use. Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols that include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.

DeKalb County is hosting a Medicaid re-enrollment event to keep residents covered with essential health insurance. “We are working to avoid a major health crisis in Georgia by helping those who have been disenrolled, but are still eligible, to access healthcare coverage for themselves and their families,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. The free event will be held Saturday, Nov. 4, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Exchange Park, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, Ga. 30034.

On Nov. 1, a single lane closure will occur on Brown Place between East College Avenue and Craigie Avenue for approximately three weeks. Normal construction hours will be from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. This lane closure is associated with the Scott Boulevard Phase III Water Main Replacement Project.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) crews have completed repairs to a six-inch-diameter water main in the area of Clifton Road near Oxford Road. Crews are also assessing the water system in the area. Any residents in the area that may experience low to no water pressure are asked to contact the DeKalb County Watershed Department at 770-270-6243.
