The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a third public master planning meeting Wednesday, November 8, at 6 p.m. at the Mason Mill Recreation Center, 1340 McConnell Dr. Decatur, Ga. The community is invited to attend and provide input on the upcoming plans.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, the Path Foundation and Mercer University will hold a third public meeting to discuss the system of trails at Mercer University Thursday, November 2, at 6:00 p.m. at the Embry Hills United Methodist Church, 3304 Henderson Mill Road, Atlanta, Ga. 30341. The meeting will take place in the main sanctuary.

DeKalb County Government has formed a new partnership to assist in its ongoing fight against high grocery prices. The county’s food distribution network will now include a coalition of Chamblee-based organizations that have been working to assist food-insecure residents in north DeKalb. On Saturday, Nov. 4, beginning at 9 a.m., volunteers will distribute 400 boxes of fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein at Plaza Fiesta, 166 Buford Hwy. NE, Atlanta, Ga. 30345.

The DeKalb County Board of Commissioners unanimously passed a resolution today expressing support for the Okefenokee Swamp in the face of a threat posed by a proposed titanium strip mine. By a 7-0 vote, the commissioners noted the ecological and economic significance of the swamp, expressed solidarity with south Georgia government entities that have spoken out against Twin Pines Minerals’ proposed titanium mine along the swamp’s hydrologic boundary, and also stated their support for state legislative action to protect the Okefenokee.

Commissioner Steve Bradshaw District 4 and the Board of Commissioners recognized H.E.H. Paving Inc. with a proclamation for 35 years of business success in DeKalb County. On Oct. 29,1988, Hobson Milner and Herb Williams started a landscaping company that eventually grew into the commercial business, H.E.H. Paving Inc. Their objective was to create and sustain a company that could satisfy customer needs on a long-term basis.
