Craigie Avenue, between Brown Place and Haven Lane, will be closed to through-traffic from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday – Friday through December 20 to facilitate a watermain replacement at 2803 Craigie Avenue, Decatur, Ga. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) applied for and was selected by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) to participate in the National Public Safety Partnership program (PSP). The DOJ will provide the DKPD intensive training and technical assistance in the areas of gun violence, criminal justice collaboration, investigations, constitutional policing, community engagement, federal partnerships, crime analysis, and technology to identify strategies that target gun, drug, and gang violence.

On Dec. 4, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announces the launch of a $13 million program aimed at reducing homelessness and preventing evictions. “By providing housing for the homeless and rental assistance for the housing insecure, this program’s two-pronged approach continues DeKalb’s commitment to counter the housing affordability crisis in our county,” said CEO Thurmond. “DeKalb County is investing millions to get and keep families in affordable homes.”

DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting at 4 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 2, 2024. The Board of Trustees will be joined by the DeKalb Library Foundation board for this meeting. The meeting will be held at Darro C. Willey-Administrative Center, 3560 Kensington Rd., Decatur, GA 30032. The meeting will also be livestreamed. Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open the following four warming centers for residents on Thursday, Nov. 28-Tuesday, Dec. 3, starting at 8 p.m. Frontline Response International has been contracted to serve individuals who need assistance during extreme weather conditions. Unlike DeKalb’s traditional warming centers, hot meals, beds, and case management services are centralized at Frontline. DeKalb offers transportation services from all its warming centers to Frontline for individuals who wish to take advantage of those centralized services.
