The DeKalb County Police Department is increasing its crimefighting arsenal with a new app to help residents submit anonymous tips from their smartphone. The new DeKalb County Police Department app allows officers to engage in an anonymous two-way conversation. The app and tip411 anonymous text-a-tip system is 100 percent anonymous, as the technology removes all identifying information before police see the tips and there is no way to identify the sender.

Young entrepreneurs will have the opportunity to present the innovative, agriculture-based businesses they developed during a “Shark Tank”-style pitch event sponsored by the EMBARC Youth Farm. The event will be held at 5:30 p.m. on Nov. 19, at the Bruce Street East DeKalb Senior Center, located at 2449 Bruce St., Lithonia. This event will spotlight the entrepreneurial skills and sustainable agriculture expertise of EMBARC participants, who, over the past 10 months, have gained hands-on experience in sustainable agriculture, covering essential skills from planting and harvesting to food production and sales strategies.

A federally-mandated inventory of publicly-owned drinking water pipes has determined that there are no known lead pipes in DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management’s (DWM) inventory. The inventory, conducted in accordance to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) Lead and Copper Rule Revisions (LCRR) and the State of Georgia Environmental Protection Division’s (EPD) guidelines, was completed by an October 2024 federally-mandated deadline and can be found by clicking “Check your line” at www.dekalbcountyga.gov/watershed-management.

The DeKalb County Planning, Economic Development, and Community Services (PECS) Committee is pleased to announce the upcoming Unhoused Summit scheduled for Thursday, Nov. 14, from 9 a.m. to noon, at 178 Sams Street, Decatur, in Multipurpose Room A1201. “We are thrilled to convene a range of partners to address one of the most pressing challenges facing DeKalb County—housing instability,” said District 2 Commissioner and PECS Chair Michelle Long Spears. “This summit will offer a platform to explore innovative solutions, engage community voices, and strengthen the County’s commitment to sustainable, supportive housing for all.”
