DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews are currently onsite to make repairs to a 6” broken water main on Covington Highway. Residents and businesses in the area are experiencing low to no water service due to the damaged water line. Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible and expect delays. The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections meeting for the purpose of conducting its normal monthly business will be held on Thursday, Jan. 9, 2025, at 4:30 p.m. This meeting will be conducted in person at 4380 Memorial Drive, Suite 300, Decatur, Georgia 30032 and is open to the public. Public comments may be made in person or submitted by sending an email of one printed page or less at a minimum font of 12 to electionspubliccmnt@dekalbcountyga.gov which must be received between 35 and 5 minutes before the scheduled start of the meeting. The body of your email must include your first and last name.

Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open the following four warming centers for residents 24 hours a day beginning 8 p.m. Monday, Jan 6, until further notice. DeKalb County’s overnight only warming center is available to residents at the following location. Special transportation will be provided each morning to the 24-hour warming center locations. During warming center activation, transportation pickups will be available to Frontline International according to the following schedule. Please note additional transportation pickup times and dates may be added.

The DeKalb County Police Department is hosting four town halls in the month of January during our Town Hall Talks—A Wrap-up of 2024. Starting on January 7, 2025, these open forums will allow community members to come together to discuss important issues, ask questions and learn from DKPD about the challenges and successes in 2024 and the goals going into 2025. The community will also have a chance to check out our new Mobile Precinct.

The Governor’s Office of Highway Safety (GOHS) has announced that the DeKalb County Police Department has received a Highway Enforcement of Aggressive Traffic (HEAT) grant for the 2025 grant season for an award total of $149,468.80. The DeKalb County Police Department’s HEAT Unit will use the grant to develop and implement strategies to reduce local traffic crashes due to aggressive and dangerous driving behaviors.
