Applications are now being accepted for the DeKalb County Police Department’s first Youth Academy. This is an opportunity for DeKalb County youth ages 14-17 to learn how their police department works. During the one-day, in-person program, which will now be held on Saturday, July 24, students will be given an overview of the department’s various units, including K9, SWAT and Crime Scene. They will also learn what to do when they encounter police.

DeKalb County District Commissioner Robert Patrick recently signed his oath of office as a newly appointed board member of Decide DeKalb and attended his first meeting with the board today. Earlier this month, DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond appointed Commissioner Patrick to the economic authority’s board.

DeKalb County’s Lou Walker Senior Center, located at 2538 Panola Road Stonecrest, has been recognized as a Nationally Accredited Senior Center of Excellence by the National Council on Aging’s National Institute of Senior Centers. The National Council on Aging (NCOA) offers the nation’s only National Senior Center Accreditation Program.

DeKalb residents will have the opportunity to receive COVID-19 vaccinations, one 20-pound box of Georgia-grown fruit and vegetables, one dozen eggs and a 10-pound package of chicken hindquarters without exiting their vehicles on, Saturday, June 5. Beginning at 8 a.m., DeKalb County Board of Health medical professionals and DeKalb Fire Rescue paramedics and EMTs will administer voluntary COVID-19 vaccinations to residents 12 years of age and older.
