DeKalb County Government is partnering with south Georgia farmers and county faith leaders to provide 2,500 boxes of Georgia-grown fruit and vegetables to residents Saturday, June 26, and Monday, June 28. “This farm-to-table initiative continues our efforts to alleviate food insecurity for our residents hardest hit by the economic effects on the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said.

After becoming the victim of an international cyberattack in March 2021, DeKalb County announced today that it will reopen the application process for its Tenant-Landlord Assistance Coalition next week. “This cyberattack will not deter us from fulfilling our mission of providing rental assistance to the tenants and landlords who have been negatively impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic,” said DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond.

Applications are now being accepted for the DeKalb County Police Department’s first Youth Academy. This is an opportunity for DeKalb County youth ages 14-17 to learn how their police department works. During the one-day, in-person program, which will now be held on Saturday, July 24, students will be given an overview of the department’s various units, including K9, SWAT and Crime Scene. They will also learn what to do when they encounter police.

DeKalb County District Commissioner Robert Patrick recently signed his oath of office as a newly appointed board member of Decide DeKalb and attended his first meeting with the board today. Earlier this month, DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond appointed Commissioner Patrick to the economic authority’s board.

DeKalb County’s Lou Walker Senior Center, located at 2538 Panola Road Stonecrest, has been recognized as a Nationally Accredited Senior Center of Excellence by the National Council on Aging’s National Institute of Senior Centers. The National Council on Aging (NCOA) offers the nation’s only National Senior Center Accreditation Program.
