As the 1st Vice President of National Association of Counties, Commissioner Larry Johnson will be a featured guest speaker as part of the United Infrastructure kick-off event Monday, May 10, 2021, at noon. This week will be a week of events, press, and advocacy in support of America's infrastructure.  “Across the country, counties are delivering projects like this one and others that will improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Commissioner Johnson.

This summer, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond and the Board of Commissioners are hosting the 2021 DeKalb Virtual Career Academy (DVCA), the county’s fifth annual summer jobs program, run by WorkSource DeKalb. “The COVID-19 pandemic continues to make it difficult for DeKalb County youth to find summer jobs and internships,” said CEO Thurmond. “Again, this year, DeKalb County will fill this training and financial gap by offering our summer jobs program as a virtual career academy.”

DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is partnering with The Great American Franchise Expo to support her efforts in increasing business ownership in DeKalb County. On Saturday and Sunday, May 15-16, 2021, at the Cobb Galleria, DeKalb residents can gain valuable information on opportunities from some of the area’s top franchises, including national and emerging businesses and chains.

DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, May 10, 2021. This meeting will be conducted via teleconference (Zoom). The DeKalb County Human Services Department will mark Older Americans Month this May with a variety of virtual programs, classes and entertainment. Older Americans’ Month, a national celebration sponsored by the U. S. Department of Health & Human Services’ Administration on Community Living, commemorates the achievements and contributions of individuals 55 years and older within their communities.
