The DeKalb County Human Services Department is partnering with the DeKalb County Board of Health to host COVID-19 and flu vaccination clinics in DeKalb through the end of flu season. Vaccines are administered by trained medical professionals. COVID-19 vaccinations are free and flu vaccinations are covered by Medicare, Medicaid and most private insurances.

In observance of Christmas Day on Friday, Dec. 24, and New Year’s Day on Friday, Dec. 31, sanitation service for residential customers will be based on a normal collection schedule. There will be no change to the sanitation service schedule. The Central Transfer Station, North Transfer Station, Seminole Road Landfill and Customer Care call center will be closed on Friday, Dec. 24, Saturday, Dec. 25, Friday, Dec. 31, and Saturday, Jan. 1, reopening on Monday, Dec. 27, and Monday, Jan. 3, respectively, during normal operating hours.

The Department of Watershed Management will temporarily suspend the DeKalb County Water Valve and Fire Hydrant Inspection and Exercising Project. During the upcoming holiday season, in anticipation of increased holiday travel, assessment crews will work, Dec. 20-21, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Normal work hours will resume on Jan. 3, 2022.

After an early morning fire claimed the lives of five people Dec. 14, DeKalb County Fire Rescue officials offer the following fire safety tips for residences. “The No. 1 defense from a fire that occurs in your home will be an operating smoke alarm,” DeKalb County Fire Chief Darnell Fullum said.

On Saturday, Dec. 18, DeKalb County Government is partnering with local faith leaders to celebrate the 2021 holiday season by distributing 4,000 boxes of food. Along with a 10-pound bag of chicken hindquarters, residents will receive one 20-pound box of food that will include oranges, red apples, collards, shelled pecans, celery, snap beans, squash, zucchini, cabbage, sweet potatoes, yellow onions, pears, candy canes and a dozen eggs.
