DeKalb County Police Chief Mirtha V. Ramos will host the department’s first virtual community Q&A of 2022. The question-and-answer session will be broadcast at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Jan. 25, on the department’s public Facebook page and Twitter. Questions or concerns can be submitted now on the Facebook event post, Twitter event post, Instagram event post or submitted live during the Q&A session.

DeKalb County will commemorate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with a weekend marked with a food distribution, COVID-19 test distribution and prayer. “The Board of Commissioners and I have proclaimed this King Holiday weekend as a time for Prayer, Healing and Restoration,” said DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond.

The DeKalb Board of Registration and Elections unanimously selected its next executive director during a recent meeting and initiated plans to hire Keisha Smith ahead of the 2022 election cycle. With nearly two decades of progressive leadership roles in both the public and private sectors, Smith emerged as the leading candidate, bringing a background with significant experience in strategic planning and operations management in complex organizations.

DeKalb County and its contractors will continue the water meter replacement on Appalachee Drive. Work is planned for Tuesday, Jan. 18, through Friday, Jan. 21, unless unforeseen circumstances arise. As crews connect the new water main, residents may experience periods of low to no water pressure during the work hours of 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
