DeKalb County will open three warming centers for residents to use overnight. Warming centers will be open in the following DeKalb County Fire Stations tonight, Dec. 20, beginning at 8 p.m. Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols which include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.

The DeKalb County Board of Assessors is collecting street level photography of improvements along all streets, roads, and highways within the County.  Tyler Technologies along with Cyclomedia Technologies, Inc. is performing these services. The street level photographs captured by the Tyler team will document the overall condition of properties, parcels, and structures, and become part of the official record. The process will utilize continuously moving vehicles.

The Metropolitan North Georgia Water Planning District recently awarded a STREAM Award to DeKalb County Watershed Management for Excellence in Education for the county’s “No FOG, No Clog” program. Since the program began in 2018, sewer spills in the county caused by clogs from fats, oils, and grease (FOG) have declined significantly, and residents countywide have been educated about the importance of pouring, scraping, and wiping these items into a container or the trash, rather than the sink.

DeKalb County District 4 Commissioner Steve Bradshaw is sponsoring a holiday toy and food giveaway and COVID-19 vaccination event on Saturday, Dec. 18. “In the midst of this holiday season, I am reminded that so many have gone without and for many the holidays can be extremely challenging on a number of fronts,” Commissioner Bradshaw said.

DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, in partnership with Soldiers’ Angels and Atlanta Food Bank, is hosting a food distribution event to provide food assistance to 200 at-risk and homeless veterans and their families. The distribution will take place Friday, Dec. 17, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, 250 North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur, Ga. 30030, and will be the last of three events scheduled for 2021 to benefit veterans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic.
