DeKalb County will give a $100 prepaid debit card to everyone who receives a COVID-19 vaccination or booster shot on Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022. In addition, see-through bookbags filled with school supplies will be distributed. UniverSoul Circus performers and other live entertainment will be provided. While 62 percent of DeKalb residents are fully vaccinated with two doses, only 32 percent have received a booster dose.

The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will host its fall household hazardous waste recycling event Saturday, Oct. 15, 2022, from 8 a.m. – noon, at the Sanitation Division’s Central Transfer Station, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. During the event, county residents will have an opportunity to properly dispose of dangerous household items that are no longer in use.

DeKalb County Friends of Washington Park will host a dedication ceremony on Sunday, Sept. 25 at 2 p.m.at Washington Park, 2830 Arborcrest Drive, Decatur, Ga. The event will honor the late Mrs. Sadie Sims’ (1915-2017) life and dedication to the Washington Park community. The DeKalb Board of Commissioners granted approval for a memorial plaque to be installed on a bench in the park.

The closure of a portion of Briarlake Road between, Briarcliff Road and Briarlake Trace Northeast, originally scheduled to start on Sept. 26, has been postponed to a later date yet to be determined. The community meeting scheduled for Thursday, Sept. 15, has been cancelled.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson, in his role as the District 3 Commissioner and immediate past president of the National Association of Counties, attended the celebration of the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act. President Biden signed the Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) into law on August 16th. The IRA, aims to reduce the federal deficit, cut carbon emissions and address several issues related to healthcare such as lowering the costs of prescription drugs.
