DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold an official groundbreaking ceremony for a new playground, parking lot and entrance at Ellenwood Park, 4100 River Rd., Ellenwood, Ga. on July 12, at 10 a.m. Over $2 million was provided from Commissioner Larry Johnson and the Parks Department to complete the park improvements. The public is invited to join county officials and parks staff at the ceremony.

DeKalb County is making recreation centers and libraries throughout the county available as cooling centers Friday, Saturday and Sunday due to a heat advisory. As defined by the National Weather Service's Peachtree City Forecast Office, a heat advisory is issued when “feels like” temperatures are expected to reach or be greater than 103 degrees, or when the actual air temperature is expected to be at 105 degrees or greater.

EDENS, a national real estate developer that partially owns the Toco Hill Shopping Center, announced its objection to its proposed annexation into the city of Brookhaven, according to a letter to Brookhaven officials. “EDENS opposes the petition and the inclusion of EDENS-owned property in the annexation without our consent,” stated Herbert Ames, managing director of EDENS, in the June 28 letter.
