The DeKalb County Charter Review Commission will be meeting Thursday, June 22, at 6:00 p.m. to continue reviewing sections of the County Organizational Act. The meetings will be held in person at the Manuel J. Maloof Center,1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. Free parking is available at the DeKalb County Courthouse parking lot for this evening event.

Meadow Lane, between Dale Place and Glenwood Road, will be closed to through-traffic 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday, June 19 to Friday, June 23 to facilitate the replacement of a storm drain pipe. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is proud to announce the release of a new episode of The Weekly Chat Podcast. This edition explores the DeKalb Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST), a one-cent sales tax that provides funding exclusively for capital projects – roads, buildings, vehicles, major equipment, and capital improvements. Adopted by voters by referendum in November 2017, the SPLOST is expected to generate $636 million over the next six years and goes back to referendum this year in November.

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continue through December 2023, with the Drew Valley Water Line Replacement Project. Crews will replace 15,000 linear feet of aging water lines with new 8-inch-diameter ductile-iron water lines along Drew Valley Road. This line repair project is expected to last approximately seven months (May to December 2023), barring any weather delays.

In observance of Juneteenth on Monday, June 19, garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will run one day late. The North Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Monday, June 19. The Customer Care call center, administration building, Central Transfer Station and Seminole Road Landfill will be closed on Monday, June 19, reopening on Tuesday, June 20, during normal operating hours.
