DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is partnering with the Latin American Association (LAA) to provide small business training and a food distribution for the Latino community in DeKalb County, focusing on Buford Highway and the surrounding area. The partnership continues the work needed in Latino and immigrant communities to train and support Latina entrepreneurs, as well as eliminate food insecurities among families.

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continue on Wednesday, July 5, with the launch of the Alameda Trail Water Main Replacement Project. Crews will install 13,100 linear feet of 8- and 12-inch-diameter ductile iron pipe, affecting Alameda Trail, Verna Drive, Verna Court, Tipany Court, Bianca Court, Aurie Drive, Aurie Court, Tarian Drive and Clifton Springs Way.

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announces a $1.8 million plan to reopen Intrenchment Creek Park on Bouldercrest Road Southeast. The funding will finance the construction of new amenities in Intrenchment Creek Park, which will include a pavillion, trailhead, remote control airplane runway and walking trail.

The DeKalb County Police Department will be hosting a “Lock Out Event” to distribute Kia steering wheel locks to DeKalb County residents that meet the below criteria and gun locks to all residents. The Lock Out Event will take place on Saturday, June 10, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot of 1950 W. Exchange Place in Tucker, Ga. The purpose of this event is to issue Kia steering wheel locks to help prevent auto thefts and gun locks to keep our community safe.

Efforts to improve the watershed system throughout DeKalb County continue on Monday, June 12, with the launch of the Thompson Mill Water Main Replacement Project. Crews will replace 10,760 linear feet of aging pipelines. The line repair project is expected to last approximately six months (June to December 2023), barring any weather delays.
