DeKalb County Extension announces the ninth season of Fresh on DeK, DeKalb County’s Mobile Farmers Market, which travels throughout the county offering nutrition education, live onsite food demonstrations and fresh fruits and vegetables for sale. Session A will be from May 15 – July 7, and Session B will be from July 17 – September 8. Fresh on DeK brings fresh fruits and vegetables to DeKalb County.

In May 2022, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners voted 6-0 to approve a request by the Sanitation Department for $21.2 million for the construction of a new, 22-acre replacement cell at Seminole Landfill. Construction of the new cell began in November 2022 and is expected to be completed by June 1. The location of the cell, or waste disposal area, is within the existing footprint of Seminole Landfill, which has been in operations since 1977.

A partial lane closure of Kensington Road, between Memorial Drive and Camp Road, will occur from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday, May 15, and Tuesday, May 16. The road is being repaved due to construction related to the Kensington Road Lift Station & Pipeline Project. One lane on Kensington Road will remain open, requiring traffic to share a single lane as crews work to repave the other lane.

DeKalb County Sanitation Department will discontinue operations in a waste disposal area, or cell, currently in use at the Seminole Landfill. Once operations discontinue in the current cell, located near the Rock Mill neighborhood, no additional solid waste will be placed near this community. The cell will be covered with dirt and grass will be planted on top of it. Construction of a new cell began in November 2022 and is expected to be complete by June 1.
