The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will host a free paper shredding event on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, from 8 a.m. - noon, at the DeKalb County Sanitation Division’s Central Transfer Station, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. Event participants will have an opportunity to responsibly dispose of all types of documents, including sensitive personal documents such as old tax records and legal documents. All documents will be shredded onsite, and each participant will be limited to ten standard-size boxes of paper. Shredding services will be provided by A1 Shredding & Recycling.

A section of DeKalb Industrial Way, between North Arcadia Avenue and East Ponce de Leon Avenue, will be closed 7 p.m. to 5 a.m. for a minimum of three nights to replace damaged water mains. This work is part of the Scott Boulevard Water Main Replacement Project Phase II. DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews are currently working to repair a section of a water pipe along the 2000 block of Briarcliff Road at Lavista Road. The pipe was damaged by a contractor not affiliated with DeKalb County. Customers in the affected area may experience low to no water pressure during the repair.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will host public meetings to discuss the DeKalb Trails and Greenway Masterplan at various recreation centers throughout DeKalb. The community is invited to attend and provide input on the results of the masterplan.

Commissioner Larry Johnson will participate in the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs discussion with Domestic Policy Council leaders about the emerging Medicaid crisis. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Congress enacted the Families First Coronavirus Response Act, which included a requirement that Medicaid programs keep people continuously enrolled through the end of the COVID-19 public health emergency.
