Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson Partners with Plaza Fiesta, STEED Society & DCSD on Back-to-School Event for Latino Community

DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is partnering with Plaza Fiesta on its annual Back-To-School event for the Latino Community. The event will be held Sunday, July 30, 2023, at 4166 Buford Highway from noon to 4 p.m. The partnership continues the work needed in Latino and immigrant communities to provide support for students and their families in need of assistance in preparation for the 2023-2024 school year.

Commissioner Larry Johnson to Host 13th Annual Let’s Move DeKalb! Back to School Expo

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson and the Center Helping Obesity in Children End Successfully (C.H.O.I.C.E.S.) extends their partnership to help parents get a healthy jumpstart on preparing for their children to go back to school. The expo will take place Saturday, July 29, at 10 a.m at the Intergenerational Center at Exchange Park, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, Ga. 30034.

Police Athletic League Begins Final Four Tournament as Successful Summer of Basketball After Dark Reaches End

Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson is proud to announce that the Final Four Tournament of the Police Athletic League (PAL) Basketball After Dark is underway. The Final Four games began June 25 and run through June 27. The week will conclude with a game Friday, June 28, at 10 p.m. between DeKalb County PAL youth participants playing against the Atlanta PAL. The final game will take place at South DeKalb YMCA, 2565 Snapfinger Road, Decatur.

DeKalb Pools and Facilities Open to Sept. 4

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs announces county pools and facilities will be open on a modified schedule from Aug. 6 through Sept. 4. The pools listed below will be open only on Saturdays and Sundays from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, contact the DeKalb County aquatics office at (770) 414-2119.
