In observance of Labor Day on Monday, Sept. 4, garbage, recyclable materials and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will be based on a revised schedule. The North Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 4, resuming normal operating hours on Tuesday, Sept. 5. The Customer Care call center, administration building, Central Transfer Station and Seminole Road Landfill will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, reopening on Tuesday, Sept. 5, during normal operating hours.

Today, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved a tax cut proposal that is projected to save DeKalb homeowners $1 billion over a six-year period. “This is a transformational moment in DeKalb’s history,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. “We have the opportunity to benefit generations of DeKalb residents.”

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs is accepting applications for after school employment opportunities such as accelerated learning coordinators, tutors, and certified teachers until Sept. 1. Applicants must be 18 years or older to apply for recreation positions. Proof of certification is required for learning coordinators and all teaching position. All applicants selected will be required to successfully complete a health screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs youth basketball and cheerleading program registration is now open until Oct. 31. County youth ages 5 to 18 are invited to sign up for instructional or division basketball. The registration fee for the instructional league ages 5 to 6 is $25, $65 for ages 7 to 18 and will include one uniform.
