The DeKalb County Charter Review Commission will be meeting Thursday, August 24, at 6:00 p.m. to continue to review sections of the County Organizational Act. The meetings will be held in person at the Manuel J. Maloof Center,1300 Commerce Drive, Decatur, GA 30030. Free parking is available at the DeKalb County Courthouse parking lot for this evening event.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) crews are working to a repair a 6-inch-diameter water main break along Evans Mill Road near Mall Parkway. Customers in the area may experience low to no water during the repair. DeKalb County will provide updates about the progress of the repairs.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs is seeking volunteers to assist at the Mystery Valley Golf Club and Sugar Creek Golf and Tennis Club now until vacancies are filled. All volunteer applicants must be 17 or older and successfully pass a criminal background check. Both facilities will be open Sunday thru Saturday and volunteers must work a minimum of a 7-hour shift once per week. Volunteers will receive benefits that include discounted rates and more.

Today, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond proposed to the Board of Commissioners a tax cut that is projected to save DeKalb homeowners $1 billion over a six-year period. In November, DeKalb County voters will have the opportunity to approve a $1 billion plan. The relief would come from a proposed Equalized Homestead Option Sales Tax (EHOST) credit for homeowners who qualify for a homestead exemption. If approved, this relief would begin in 2024.

On Thursday, Aug. 17, 2023, Super District 6 Commissioner Ted Terry and Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will hold a meeting to educate and engage the community on the Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (SPLOST II). The meeting will begin at 6:30 pm at the New Life Church, located at 3592 Flat Shoals Rd. in Decatur.
