DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, August 14, 2023. The meeting will be held at DeKalb County Public Library Darro C. Willey-Administrative Center, 3560 Kensington Road, Decatur, GA 30032. The meeting will also be live-streamed. Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has been selected as the 2023 Georgia Elected Official of the Year by the American Public Works Association (APWA). The highly distinguished award represents the first time a DeKalb County elected official has been selected for this honor.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a Welcome Week at the newly constructed East Central DeKalb Community and Senior Center, 4885 Elam Road, Stone Mountain, Georgia from August 7th – 11th. The public is encouraged to partake in this free occasion designed to educate ages 8 and up on the amenities and various programs offered at the center.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs announces after school program registration is open at all recreation centers. The fee is $37 per week and the program is available for children ages 5-13. The program will begin August 7th - May 22nd, 2024, Monday through Friday, from 2:30 - 6:30 p.m. The program will provide homework assistance, physical activity, snacks and social and emotional development.

DeKalb County Government is partnering with local faith leaders to distribute 5,000 bookbags filled with school supplies along with 5,000 boxes of fresh produce, chicken and lunch box snacks on Saturday, Aug. 5. “We are pleased to partner with our faith community to help parents prepare to send their children back to school,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said.
