Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, in partnership with the DeKalb County Human Services Department and the Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, announces the launch of the E.M.B.A.R.C. Youth Farm Entrepreneurship Program. The program is a groundbreaking initiative aimed at equipping student participants with education and knowledge in urban farming, sustainable agriculture and entrepreneurship.

On Monday, Feb. 26, at 7 p.m., crews will begin restriping the lanes on East Ponce de Leon Avenue, just north of DeKalb Industrial Way. The work, which will take approximately two days, is part of the Scott Boulevard Water Main Replacement Project Phase II. Lane closure and detour signs have been placed in the area to advise motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open five warming centers for residents on Sat., Feb. 24, starting at 8 p.m. to use. Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols that include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.

DeKalb-Peachtree Airport (PDK) will host Good Neighbor Day Air Show and Open House on May 11 to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day, the day, June 6, 1944, in World War II on which Allied forces invaded northern France by means of beach landings in Normandy. “We are excited to bring back our annual Good Neighbor Day, which is the longest-running air show in the region,” said Hunter Hines, PDK’s interim director. “The. We look forward to hosting families and aviation enthusiasts.”

On Sunday, Feb. 25, construction crews associated with the Scott Boulevard Water Main Replacement Project Phase II, will conduct night work on North Decatur Road near the intersection of DeKalb Industrial Way. The night work will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. through March 1.
