The DeKalb County Police Department will host the 2024 Youth Academy on April 6 from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Police Headquarters, 1960 W. Exchange Pl., Tucker, Ga. This is an opportunity for DeKalb County youth ages 13-17 to learn how the police department works. During the one-day in-person program, students will be given an overview of the department’s various units, including K9, SWAT, Criminal Investigations, Crime Scene, and more. Participants will also learn what to do when they encounter the police.

DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond was recognized March 11 as the 2023 Georgia Public Library Champion of the Year. “I am honored and humbled to be recognized as a champion for Georgia libraries,” CEO Thurmond said. “These important institutions are among the principal building blocks of our American democracy.”

Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols that include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check. DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting at 4:30 p.m. on Monday, March 11, 2024. The meeting will be held at Chamblee Library, 4115 Clairmont Road, Chamblee, GA  30341. The meeting will also be live-streamed.
