Russell Drive between S Columbia Drive and Chester Way and Chester Way between North Carter Road and Russell Drive, will be closed to through-traffic Friday, February 9 to Friday, March 1 to facilitate the installation of a new 30-inch water line on Russell Drive, Decatur, Ga. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will open registration for “Camp Superstars” summer camp program Feb. 13. Camp Superstars, a summer day camp for ages 5-15, runs June 3 to July 26, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The camp fee is $66 per week, and breakfast and lunch are provided.

Commissioner Cochran-Johnson will participate on the “Reducing Red Tape: Breaking Down the Federal Permitting Process for Counties” panel. The workshop will focus on how the federal permitting process impacts local infrastructure projects and strategies for streamlining the process for counties that own and operate a vast amount of the nation's infrastructure networks, including roads and bridges, public transit, and water and wastewater systems. Streamlining the federal permitting process in a way that supports environmentally sound economic development is a longstanding NACo priority.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs and Commissioner Michelle Long Spears partners with Atlanta-based artist Jermaine Clark to host two community engagement meetings to discuss mural installations at Mason Mill Park. The community is invited to attend the meetings and provide input regarding the installations to complete the trails for the park.
