A partial lane closure will occur on Houston Mill Road, between Gatewood Road Northeast and Clifton Road, beginning 9 a.m. Monday, March 4, through 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 5. The closure is part of a small-diameter lining project to improve sewer systems in the community.

DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold a public meeting to present a review of the master plan for the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve on Tuesday, March 19 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will be held at the Stonecrest Library, 3123 Klondike Rd., Stonecrest, Ga. 30038.

The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will host its spring household hazardous waste recycling event on Saturday, March 16, 2024, from 8 a.m. – noon, at the Sanitation Division’s Central Transfer Station, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. During the event, county residents will have an opportunity to properly dispose of dangerous household items that are no longer in use. Hazardous materials, such as aerosols, batteries, adhesives, flammables, lawn care products, fluorescent light bulbs, photo chemicals, paint, paint-related products and artist supplies, will be accepted. Paint will be limited to 10 gallons per vehicle.

Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open five warming centers for residents on Wed., Feb. 28, starting at 8 p.m. to use. Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols that include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson, in partnership with DeKalb Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs and the How Big Is Your Dream Foundation, where the founder and CEO is renowned drummer Jorel “JFly” Flynn, will host the “Our Soundtrack in American Music master sessions and grand finale concert at the Porter Sanford, III Performing Arts and Community Center. The master sessions began Tuesday, Feb. 20, and continue through Saturday, Feb. 24, with a grand finale concert on Sunday, Feb. 25, at 6 p.m.
