Traffic Signal Requests
Need a traffic signal or stop sign?
We conduct studies following Manual of Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards.
Traffic Signal Requirements:
- Must meet federal warrant criteria
- Volume data collected during school sessions only
- Accident analysis and sight distance evaluation required
Multi-Way Stop Sign Requirements:
- Equal traffic volumes on intersecting roads
- Minimum volume thresholds must be met
- OR documented accident problem (5+ accidents in 12 months)
Note: Speeding alone does not warrant stop sign installation.

Traffic Counts: Georgia Department of Transportation provides annual traffic count data. Access GDOT Traffic Data.
Accident Data: Contact DeKalb County Police Department Central Records Office for official accident reports.
Request Street Lighting
How It Works: Most residential street lights are installed through neighborhood petition programs where residents pay installation costs and ongoing fees through a special tax district.

Residential Traffic Calming Program
Purpose: Address the concerns of the citizens regarding the speed of traffic on residential streets.
- Street classified as local residential
- Posted speed limit of 30 mph or less
- Must appear on DeKalb County Functional Classification Map
- Initial Interest Petition: Call 770-492-5219 Requires 20% resident interest to proceed
- Traffic Study: Speed and volume evaluation
- Stakeholder Meeting: Develop traffic calming plan with residents and staff
- Board Approval: Plan presented to Board of Commissioners
- Final Petition: 65% property owner approval required for installation
Timeline: Up to one year for full process
