The Roads & Drainage Division delivers a full range of road services that keep DeKalb County’s infrastructure safe, reliable, and well-maintained. From asphalt repair and pavement rating to sidewalk construction, bridge maintenance, and traffic control installations, our team manages critical components of the county’s transportation network. We maintain and improve drainage systems through pipe repair, detention pond maintenance, system cleaning, and the Citizens Drainage Program. Engineering and inspection staff oversee project design, quality control, site assessments, and customer service coordination to ensure every request is handled efficiently. Together, these services support a smoother, safer experience for all who live, work, and travel in DeKalb County.

Asphalt Maintenance & Repair

Road Rating System: Annual inspections using a 0-62 scale (0 = best, 62 = worst condition)

  • Funding Sources: SPLOST 2017 and Georgia DOT Local Maintenance Improvement Grant (LMIG)
  • Services: Large-scale asphalt patching, pothole repair, rutting correction, crack  sealing
Priority Work Order System:
  • 🔴 Red (Emergency): Public safety threats - resolved within 30 days
  • 🔵 Blue (High Priority): Non-emergency issues - resolved within 60-90 days
  • 🟢 Green (Routine): Maintenance items - 90+ day timeline
Construction & Infrastructure
  • New sidewalk construction
  • Bridge maintenance and upgrade
  • Speed hump installation
  • Traffic control device installation and maintenance
Citizens Drainage Program (CDP)

Citizens Drainage Program (CDP)

  • Up to $2,500 in drainage pipes and/or granite rock (approximately 40-50 tons)
  • Eligibility: Property owners with drainage issues on private property
  • Requirements: County inspection and approval required
  • Installation: Property owner responsibility
