DeKalb’s Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center will host a Hammocks, Hooks and S’mores Deck party, Saturday, Aug. 3 from 4:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center, 3787 Klondike Rd., Stonecrest, Ga. The Hammocks, Hooks and S’mores Deck party will include a celebration of the newly created deck. Patrons also will enjoy s’mores and fishing at the Arabia Lake. An adult parent/guardian must accompany each child for the duration of the event. No previous fishing experience is required.

DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will partner with the Mushroom Club of Georgia to host an Oyster Mushroom Bag Cultivation workshop on Saturday, July 27, from 9 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., at the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Center, 3787 Klondike Rd, Stonecrest, Ga. The workshop is free, and participants will be introduced to the world of fungi. The workshop will include a presentation and a hands-on session that will teach an easy at-home process for growing oyster mushrooms. All supplies will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis.

On July 9, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved significant animal-related items requested by Commissioner Michelle Long Spears. Additionally, funds were allocated for veterinary services to perform mobile spay-and-neuter surgeries, veterinarian/vet tech support to conduct community spay-and-neuter surgeries on Saturdays, and a court dog coordinator to address the issue of court dogs remaining in the DeKalb County Animal Services center for undesirably long periods.

Night work will take place from 7 p.m.- 6 a.m. on Sunday, July 21, Monday, July 22 and Tuesday, July 23. The lane closures are necessary as crews make progress in replacing the 30-inch Ductile Iron Pipe (DIP) water main that is part of the Scott Boulevard Water Main Replacement Project Phase II.
