The DeKalb Board of Registration and Elections meeting for the purpose of conducting its normal monthly business will be held on Thursday, Oct. 12, 2023, at 4:30 p.m. This meeting will be conducted in person at 4380 Memorial Drive, Decatur, Ga. 30032.

DeKalb County saw a 79 percent drop in sewer spill volume from 2020 to 2023. The year-to-date total spill volume dropped from 24 million gallons in 2020 to 5 million gallons in 2023, which is 19 million gallons less, or a 79.23 percent decrease. “This significant decline in spill volume is the result of a comprehensive effort to repair, upgrade and maintain DeKalb’s sewer system,” said DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond. “Residents have also contributed to this decrease by pouring less fats, oils and grease down drains.”

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continue on Monday, Oct. 16, with the launch of the San Gabriel Water Line Replacement Project. Crews will replace approximately 10,000 linear feet of crumbling water lines with new 8-inch- and 12-inch-diameter ductile-iron water lines along San Gabriel. This line repair project is expected to last approximately 12 months (October 2023 to November 2024), barring any weather delays.

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County will resume on Tuesday, Oct. 10, with the relaunch of the Miriam Lane Water Main Replacement Project. Crews will work to install 14,000 linear feet of new 8-inch-diameter water main on and around Miriam Lane in Decatur.
