The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, the Path Foundation and Mercer University will hold a second public meeting to discuss the system of trails at Mercer University Wednesday, September 27, at 6:00 p.m. at the Mercer Administration and Conference Center, 2930 Flowers Rd. South, Atlanta, Ga. The meeting will take place on the second floor in the auditorium.

The department is looking for men and women who wish to serve the residents of DeKalb County. Candidates will have the opportunity to complete the hiring process and potentially walk away with a conditional offer of employment with a start date of November 13, 2023. Our starting salary for certified officers is up to $62,164 with a $5,000 sign-on bonus and up to $57,750 for non-certified individuals with a $3,000 sign-on bonus.

The DeKalb-Peachtree Airport Advisory Board meeting is scheduled for Monday, September 11, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be held virtually via Zoom at https://dekalbcountyga.zoom.us/j/84958022051. The DeKalb County Charter Review Commission will hold its next meeting on Thursday, Sept. 14, at 6:00 p.m.at the Lou Walker Senior Center at 2538 Panola Road, Stonecrest 30058. Free parking is available at the site. The hearing can be viewed at https://video.ibm.com/channel/dctv-channel-23.  Remarks are welcomed from residents of DeKalb County. Each speaker will have three (3) minutes to speak. Written remarks are also welcomed.

The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will host a free paper shredding event on Saturday, Sept. 16, 2023, from 8 a.m. - noon, at the DeKalb County Sanitation Division’s Central Transfer Station, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur, GA 30032. Event participants will have an opportunity to responsibly dispose of all types of documents, including sensitive personal documents such as old tax records and legal documents. All documents will be shredded onsite, and each participant will be limited to ten standard-size boxes of paper. Shredding services will be provided by A1 Shredding & Recycling.
