In response to National Weather Service forecasts of heat indices exceeding 100 degrees, DeKalb County is opening cooling centers Friday, June 28, through Monday, July 1. For a list of available cooling centers, visit www.dekalbcountyga.gov/weather. DeKalb County recreation centers and libraries will be available as cooling centers during the locations’ normal business hours. Water fountains will be accessible at recreation centers and libraries.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews have completed repairs to leaking water main on Memorial Drive near the intersection of Rockbridge Road. Water service has been restored to the area. As service is restored, customers in the affected area may experience brown water and are encouraged to run the faucets inside and outside their homes/businesses to clear the internal plumbing.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews are currently onsite to repair a leaking water main on Memorial Drive near the intersection of Rockbridge Road. Some customers in the area may lose water service during the repair. DeKalb Watershed Management crews have blocked two westbound lanes on Memorial Drive.

Today, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond announced the county’s Equalized Homestead Option Sales Tax (EHOST) credit for 2024 will provide $162 million in property tax relief for property owners with homestead exemptions. Qualified homeowners receive an EHOST credit that reduces or offsets property tax liability. The amount of property tax relief received by a qualified homeowner is based on the assessed value of the homesteaded property and sales tax revenue generated by EHOST.

Approximately 20 acres of I-20 and I-85 interchanges, including Chamblee Tucker and Flat Shoals Roads, have or will receive multimillion dollar facelifts. These interchanges and roadways are among the most highly traveled highways in DeKalb County. The Gateway Beautification Project is designed to increase community pride, attract new business investments and reduce crime.
