Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continue on Tues., Jan. 21, with the launch of the Malone Drive Water Line Repair Project. Crews will repair 60 linear feet of 30-inch ductile iron pipe (DIP), affecting Malone Drive between Peachtree Road and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard. This project is expected to last one month (January to February 2025), barring weather delays. Normal construction hours will be from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding major holidays. An increase in construction-related noise and traffic during work hours should be expected.

Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County has opened the following four warming centers for residents 24 hours a day beginning at 8 p.m. until Fri., Jan.17, at 8 a.m. DeKalb County’s overnight only warming center, North DeKalb Senior/Community Center, 3393 Malone Drive, Chamblee, will open tonight, Jan. 13, at 8 p.m. Special transportation will be provided each morning to one of the 24-hour warming center locations.

DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management crews completed repairs overnight to a 6” broken water main at McAfee Road near Nettie Court and Willie Way. As service is restored, customers in the affected area may experience brown water and are encouraged to run the faucets inside and outside their homes/businesses to clear the internal plumbing. In observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day on Monday, Jan. 20, garbage, recyclable materials, and yard trimmings collection for residential customers will be based on a revised collection schedule. The North Transfer Station will be open from 6 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 20, resuming normal operating hours on Tuesday, Jan. 21. The Customer Care call center, administration building, Central Transfer Station, and Seminole Road Landfill will be closed on Monday, Jan. 20, reopening on Tuesday, Jan. 21, during normal operating hours.

DeKalb County work crews arrived at midnight this morning to begin preparation for the winter weather event today. The work crews will work 16-hour shifts until Saturday morning at 7:00 a.m. when weather conditions are expected to improve.
