DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs is partnering with the American Red Cross to host several blood drives from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on March 31 and in the month of May at various recreation centers throughout DeKalb. The American Red Cross has developed an operating plan that meets the guidelines for the CDC and local health officials.

Residents in DeKalb County continue to experience a rise in COVID-19 cases. In District 1, there are underserved communities that need resources and information that allows them to make informed decisions for themselves and their families. Commissioner Robert Patrick (District 1) has partnered with Kaiser Permanente to provide a virtual Town hall question-and-answer session on Wednesday, March 23, 2021, from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. The event will be fully broadcast in Spanish.

DeKalb County Government and the Easter Bunny will join forces this weekend to distribute 3,600 COVID-19 Care Baskets during the county’s monthly food distribution to fight COVID-19 food insecurity. In addition to the normal fare of one 20-pound box of fruit and vegetables and a 10-pound package of chicken hindquarters, residents will receive a dozen Georgia Grown Grade A eggs.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will host its third Annual Easter Egg and Scavenger Hunt Extravaganza on April 3, from noon to 2 p.m. at Exchange Park, 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30034. The free event is for children in kindergarten to fifth grade. Participants will receive an Easter bucket while supplies last and must be accompanied by an adult. The event will include a drive-by scavenger hunt, vendors, photos with the Easter Bunny and more.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson will host his annual Spring community cleanups for the south DeKalb community beginning at 9:30 a.m. each Saturday starting March 27 through April 24. Commissioner Johnson will be joined by Commissioner Ted Terry and Sheriff Melody Maddox.
