DeKalb County will host a back-to-school food distribution for 3,500 families on Saturday, July 24. DeKalb residents will have the opportunity to receive packages of single-serving grits, juice boxes and cereal for students, along with one 20-pound box of Georgia-grown fruit and vegetables, and a 10-pound package of chicken hindquarters.

DeKalb County’s Senior Center Without Walls: Virtual Village and DeKalb Virtual Career Academy have been recognized with Achievement Awards from the National Association of Counties (NACo). The awards honor innovative, effective county government programs that strengthen services for residents.

DeKalb Board of Commissioners Presiding Officer Steve Bradshaw and School Board Chair Vickie B. Turner will host a Back-to-School Event on Saturday, July 17, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. at Clarkston First Baptist Church, located at 3999 Church Street, Clarkston, GA 30021.

On July 10, 2021, a fox was captured in the Turner Hill Road area of Stonecrest and later tested positive for rabies. The fox has been euthanized. Georgia is a rabies endemic state and the virus is present all year long. It is not unusual for the county to report several rabies cases each year.

Today, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved CEO Michael Thurmond’s proposed $3,000 one-time Protect and Serve Retention Bonus for first responders and eligible public safety personnel. “DeKalb’s public safety team is the front line of our ongoing efforts to quell violent crime in the county,” CEO Thurmond said. “This bonus is evidence of DeKalb County’s appreciation for their selfless service, dedication and commitment to protecting and serving our residents.”
