“DeKalb County is honored to have its PAL Plus youth outreach and career development program recognized by the attorney general,” said DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond. “In partnership with Georgia Piedmont Technical College, our police department is helping local youth to be prepared for gainful employment with critical work skills and experience."

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continues on Monday, March 21, with the launch of the Buford Highway Emergency Sewer Line Replacement Project. Crews will replace 60 linear feet of failing sewer line with new 8-inch ductile-iron pipe along Buford Highway. This line repair project is expected to last approximately two weeks, from March 21 to April ), barring any weather delays.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs has opened registration for “Camp Superstars” summer camp program. Camp Superstars, a summer day camp for ages 5-15, runs June 6 to July 29, from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The camp fee is $66 per week, and breakfast and lunch are provided.

DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs is now accepting applications for numerous summer employment opportunities such as pool managers, food monitors, camp counselors, recreation assistants and bus drivers. Applicants must be ages 18 or older to apply for recreation positions. All applicants selected will be required to successfully complete a drug and alcohol screening and criminal background check prior to employment.

The DeKalb County Police Department is hosting a free safety fair on Saturday, March 19, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at South DeKalb Plaza, 2627 Candler Road, Decatur. During the fair, residents will receive free gun locks, car seat safety checks, DUI simulators, child ID kits, information on how to create a neighborhood watch, and more.
