DeKalb County Cooperative Extension will host free Family and Consumer Sciences virtual classes. The Power Forward: Adequate Sleep class will be on March 14th at 11:30 a.m. This class will teach participants to reduce health risks associated with inadequate sleep. DeKalb County District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will participate in an important discussion sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Housing Forum on the state of affordable housing in Metro Atlanta. The event, titled “Taking Stock of Metro Atlanta's Affordable Housing Priorities,” will take place virtually on Wednesday, March 2, 2022, at 9:30 a.m., and will feature a diverse group of metro Atlanta city and county leaders at the helm of housing initiatives.

DeKalb County Government is partnering with local faith leaders to distribute 3,600 boxes of produce and chicken on Saturday, March 5. “As food prices continue to soar, many people are struggling to keep food on their tables,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. “This food distribution will help to relieve the burden residents have of feeding their families.”

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continues on Tuesday, Mar. 1, with the launch of the Haygood Drive Water Line Replacement Project. Work will include the installation of 1,250 linear feet of new, 16” water line on Haygood Drive between Clifton Road and Ridgewood Drive. The line repair project is expected to last approximately 3 months (March 2022 to May 2022), barring any weather delays.

The Superior Court Clerks’ Association awarded Debra DeBerry, Clerk of Superior Court, DeKalb County with the prestigious ÈCLAT Award on February 22, 2022.  Barry Wilkes, former Clerk of Court in Liberty County and for whom the award is named, presented the honor to DeBerry at the Winter Conference held in Atlanta.  Wilkes stated that the decision was unanimous.
