DeKalb County Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will host the Summer Food Service Program from June 1 – July 22. This ongoing effort ensures school children have nutritious meals during the summer and seeks participating program sites. To qualify as a site, 50 percent of children served must meet the income guidelines for free and reduced-price meals in the National School Lunch Program.

A 16-year-old male has been arrested and charged with murder and burglary in connection with the Feb. 19 shooting death of Mr. Henry Ashley, 24. The arrest comes after DeKalb County Police received tips from the community, which led to the identification and arrest of the suspect.

DeKalb County Cooperative Extension will host free Family and Consumer Sciences virtual classes. The Power Forward: Adequate Sleep class will be on March 14th at 11:30 a.m. This class will teach participants to reduce health risks associated with inadequate sleep. DeKalb County District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will participate in an important discussion sponsored by the Atlanta Regional Housing Forum on the state of affordable housing in Metro Atlanta. DeKalb County Government is partnering with local faith leaders to distribute 3,600 boxes of produce and chicken on Saturday, March 5. “As food prices continue to soar, many people are struggling to keep food on their tables,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said. “This food distribution will help to relieve the burden residents have of feeding their families.”
