DeKalb County Government is partnering with the DeKalb County School District and local faith leaders to distribute 5,000 bookbags filled with school supplies along with fresh produce, chicken and lunch box snacks on Saturday, July 30. “We are pleased to partner with the DeKalb County School District and our faith community to help parents prepare to send their children back to school,” DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond said.

Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continues on Wednesday, Aug. 3, with the launch of the McClave Drive Water Line Replacement Project. Crews will replace 12,000 linear feet of crumbling water lines with new 8-inch ductile-iron water lines along McClave Drive. This line repair project is expected to last approximately eight months (August 2022 to April 2023), barring any weather delays.

The Georgia Chapter of the American Society of Public Administrators (ASPA) has recognized DeKalb CEO Michael Thurmond as the public administrator of the year for 2022 for his leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and stewardship of county during its governance crisis. “CEO Thurmond’s leadership during the pandemic and stewardship of DeKalb County resources is beyond reproach,” said Dr. Otilla Iancu, president of ASPA’s Georgia chapter.
