As homelessness continues to be a pressing issue in DeKalb County, Commissioner Robert Patrick is proud to announce, "It Takes a Village," a town hall conversation dedicated to addressing this critical concern. The event will take place on Friday, April 12, at Mercer University, starting at 8 a.m. and concluding at 12 noon. "We believe that tackling homelessness requires a collective effort," said DeKalb Commissioner Robert Patrick, District 1. "By convening this town hall, we hope to unite our community in a shared commitment to compassion, empathy, and action."

Twenty gang members were arrested on April 5, 2024, following a joint investigation by the DeKalb County Police Department Gang Unit, Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI), Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF), and the Cedar Park Police Department (Texas). DKPD was contacted by the Cedar Park Police Department in reference to four unidentified armed robbery suspects that might have connections in DeKalb County. DKPD was able to identify those suspects and locate them in a DeKalb County residence.

The DeKalb County Public Library Board of Trustees will hold a special called meeting of the Executive Committee on Monday, April 8, 2024 at 1 p.m. The purpose of the meeting is to consider approval of a mural at Clarkston Library. The meeting will be held at DeKalb County Public Library Darro C. Willey-Administrative Center, 3560 Kensington Road, Decatur, Ga. 30032. The meeting will also be live-streamed via Zoom. DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond has appointed Carina Swain as the county’s E-911 director. A public safety professional with more than 16 years of experience, Swain worked for the Atlanta Police Department from 2019 to 2023, most recently serving as an E-911 Communications shift manager. From 2016 to 2019, Swain worked for Fulton County Emergency Services as an E-911 Communications senior supervisor.
