On Fri., March 14, 2025, S. Columbia Place will be closed to through traffic from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. between McAfee Rd and Rosewood Rd to facilitate tree removal work on 1990 S Columbia Pl, Decatur, GA 30032. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) plans to hold a one-stop hiring event on Saturday, March 15, from 8:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Tobie Grant Recreation Center, 593 Parkdale Drive, Scottdale, GA 30079. Recruit and certified officer positions are available. Candidates will have the opportunity to complete a large portion of the hiring process and walk away with a conditional offer.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs is pleased to partner with the Georgia Department of Early Care and Learning and the Happy Helping Program to provide food via programs that service youth 18 years and under during the summer. The program will run from June 9 – July 18. The Department is encouraging agencies to apply now to participate as a distribution site.

On Thursday, March 6, DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) crews will begin work to repair the sewer lateral at 710 East Ponce de Leon Ave, Decatur. A partial road closure will be in place near the 710 block to through traffic from 7:30 a.m. – 7:00 p.m. to facilitate the repair. Residents near the address should park all vehicles above the repair site to have access back and forth to vehicles until repairs are complete.

Due to forecasted cold weather, DeKalb County will open the following four warming centers for residents on Wed., Mar. 5, starting at 8 p.m. Frontline Response International has been contracted to serve individuals who need assistance during extreme weather conditions. Unlike DeKalb’s traditional warming centers, hot meals, beds, and case management services are centralized at Frontline. DeKalb offers transportation services from all its warming centers to Frontline for individuals who wish to take advantage of those centralized services.
