DeKalb County Department of Watershed Management (DWM) crews are working to a repair water main break on Covington Highway near South Hairston Road. A private contractor working in the area hit a 16 inch-diameter DeKalb County water main on Nov. 22. DeKalb crews have been onsite since 5 p.m. yesterday assessing and working to repair the broken water main.

Efforts to improve the watershed system throughout DeKalb County continues on Monday, Nov. 28, with the launch of the Shallowford Road Emergency Waterline Repair. Crews will repair a leak in a 30-inch-diameter water transmission main along Shallowford Road.  This repair will take place on Monday, Nov. 28, 2022, between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, DeKalb County Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson will host the 3rd Annual Stuff the Bus Holiday Toy Drive to help bring the joy of Christmas to underserved children during the holidays. The event is open to anyone wanting to donate new, unwrapped toys to deserving children and will take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

On Saturday, Nov. 19, DeKalb County Government will celebrate Thanksgiving Day 2022 by partnering with local faith leaders to distribute 5,000 boxes of 100 percent Georgia-grown fruits and vegetables, eggs, and chicken hindquarters. Residents will receive one 20-pound box of food that will include a dozen fresh eggs, and a 10-lb. bag of chicken hindquarters. Residents also will receive cookies, fruit juice and cereal especially for children.

Commissioner Robert Patrick, along with several of his Board of Commissioner colleagues, has teamed up with the DeKalb Library Foundation (DLF) to assist in continuing a popular and vital DeKalb County Public Library (DCPL) program. The Take Back the Internet Initiative is an effort to bridge the digital divide for DeKalb County citizens. This free mobile hotspot lending program began in 2017 with 75 mobile devices at 5 library locations to assist DeKalb residents without internet access.
