Mabry Road NE, between E Brookhaven Drive NE and Farmington Lane NE, will be closed to through-traffic from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday, Dec. 19 through Tuesday, Dec. 20, to facilitate the point repair on a sanitary sewer line at 2753 Mabry Road NE. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

On Tuesday, Dec. 13, the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners approved a Video Surveillance Ordinance which will require convenience stores and high-risk businesses to own and operate a video surveillance system. “With the ongoing violence and crime DeKalb County is experiencing, particularly at gas and service stations, the approval of this ordinance couldn’t be more dire,” said DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson.

On Saturday, Dec. 17, DeKalb County Government is partnering with local faith leaders to celebrate the 2022 holiday season by distributing 5,000 boxes of food. “The rising cost of groceries will make it more difficult for families to put food on their tables during this holiday season,” said DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond.

DeKalb County will open warming centers for residents to use this weekend. Warming centers will be open in the following DeKalb County locations on Dec. 16, Dec. 17, and Dec. 18, beginning at 8 p.m. Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols that include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.

In observance of Christmas Day on Monday, Dec. 26, and New Year’s Day on Monday, Jan. 2, sanitation service for residential customers will be based on a revised holiday schedule. The Central Transfer Station, North Transfer Station, Seminole Road Landfill, Customer Care call center, and Commercial Services will be closed on Monday, Dec. 26, and Monday, Jan. 2, resuming services on Tuesday, Dec. 27, and Tuesday, Jan. 3, during normal operating hours.
