This summer, DeKalb County CEO Michael Thurmond and the Board of Commissioners are hosting the 2023 DeKalb Virtual Career Academy (DVCA), the county’s seventh annual summer jobs training program, run by WorkSource DeKalb. “As families continue to struggle to navigate high inflation and food prices, DeKalb County wants to help youth earn money to purchase much-needed items for school while learning critical job skills,” CEO Thurmond said.

The DeKalb County Department of Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs will hold two master plan community meetings to review park improvements for the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve on April 24th and 26th. The community is invited to attend the meetings and provide input regarding the master plan and upcoming improvements for the Davidson-Arabia Mountain Nature Preserve.

The 34th Annual DeKalb County Senior Olympic Games will be held May 1-12, for ages 50 and older. The kickoff for the games will be 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 1, at Exchange Intergenerational Recreation Center 2771 Columbia Drive, Decatur, GA 30034. The Olympic-style sports festival will include free-throw basketball, bowling, track and field, billiards, swimming, table tennis, line dancing, water volleyball and more. Events will be held at various venues across the county.

On Monday, April 3, a portion of the Church Street, between Norris Street and Geneva Street, will have a lane closure while crews work to repair sewer pipe. This work will continue through Friday, April 21, barring any weather issues. The Small Diameter Sewer Cleaning Project is part of DeKalb County’s $2.4 billion capital improvement program, the Department of Watershed Management (DWM) will be improving the capacity and service of the Watershed systems serving your community.
