Commissioner Steve Bradshaw, who chairs the DeKalb County Board of Commissioners’ Budget Committee, will host the last of three information meetings to review DeKalb County’s proposed 2023 budget today, Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at Dunwoody Library, 5339 Chamblee-Dunwoody Road, Dunwoody, GA30338.

The E.M.B.A.R.C. Community Youth Farm, in partnership with the DeKalb County Recreation, Parks & Cultural Affairs Department and Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson, will host a special tree planting program in honor of Georgia Arbor Day. The Plant A Tree event will take place Friday, Feb. 17, 2023, from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at the E.M.B.A.R.C. Community Youth Farm, located at 1185 Rock Chapel Road, Lithonia, GA 30058.

ReLeaf DeKalb, a partnership between DeKalb County and Trees Atlanta, has enjoyed a successful launch for the 2023 planting season by planting a total of 214 trees. During the month of March, 150 more trees are projected to be planted. DeKalb County recently began its second year of ReLeaf DeKalb. ReLeaf DeKalb II encompasses two components: Residential Front Yards and Public Properties. Planting trees increases DeKalb’s tree canopy and enhances ecosystem benefits.

DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson in partnership with DeKalb Recreation, Parks and Cultural Affairs, Georgia Tech Department of Music Technology and the How Big Is Your Dream Foundation, whose founder and CEO is the renowned drummer Jorel “JFly” Flynn, will host the Our Soundtrack in American Music Master Sessions and Grand Finale at the Porter Sanford, III Performing Arts and Community Center.

In observance of Presidents Day on Monday, Feb. 20, sanitation service for residential customers will run one day late. The North Transfer Station will be open from 7 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 20. The Central Transfer Station, Seminole Road Landfill, administration building and Customer Care call center will be closed on Monday, Feb. 20, reopening on Tuesday, Feb. 21, during normal operating hours.
