The DeKalb County Board of Registration and Elections will hold a Special Called Meeting on Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 1:00 p.m. This meeting will be conducted in-person at the Tobie Grant Recreation Center, 593 Parkdale Dr, Scottdale GA 30079. Public comments may be made in person or submitted by sending an email of one page or less to electionspubliccmnt@dekalbcountyga.gov, which must be received between 1:00 p.m. on the day of the meeting.

The DeKalb County Sanitation Division will host its spring household hazardous waste recycling event on Saturday, March 18, 2023, from 8 a.m. – noon, at the Sanitation Division’s Central Transfer Station, 3720 Leroy Scott Drive, Decatur, Ga. 30032. During the event, county residents will have an opportunity to properly dispose of dangerous household items that are no longer in use.

DeKalb County Super District 7 Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson and Super District 6 Commissioner Ted Terry are inviting the DeKalb County community to attend a special Town Hall designed to educate residents about the Charter Review process. The DeKalb County Charter Review Town Hall will take place February 23, 2023, at 6 p.m. and will give attendees a better understanding of the Organizational Act (Org. Act) and the role the DeKalb County Charter Review Commission (Charter Review Commission) will play in determining the future.

At approximately 2:30 p.m. today, a plane, which had departed but returned to DeKalb-Peachtree Airport, crashed at the airport in a grassy area while experiencing engine problems during a training session. The pilot and a student onboard were taken to local hospitals. No people, vehicles or buildings were struck. The Federal Flight Standards District Office will be investigating the accident.

DeKalb County will open warming centers for residents to use in the following locations for two nights, Fri. and Sat., Feb. 17-18, beginning at 8 p.m. Anyone staying in the warming centers must follow the county’s COVID-19 protocols that include wearing a mask, social distancing and undergoing a temperature check.
