On Oct. 17, 2021, a bat was captured on in the 1800 block of Westminister Way and later tested positive for rabies. Georgia is a rabies endemic state and the virus is present all year long. It is not unusual for the county to report several rabies cases each year.

On Oct. 25, a portion of the northbound lane along Columbia Drive, between Snapfinger Road and Homera Place, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., while crews work to rehabilitate 386 linear feet of ductile-iron sewer pipe. This section of Columbia Drive will reopen on Saturday, Nov. 6.

DeKalb County Commissioner Lorraine Cochran-Johnson recently allocated $15,000 in District 7 discretionary funding to the Atlanta Community Food Bank to assist Soldiers' Angels with three mobile food distributions for veterans impacted by the COVID-19 pandemic. The second distribution will take place this Friday, Oct. 22, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Atlanta VA Arcadia Clinic, 250 North Arcadia Avenue, Decatur, Ga. 30030.
