On Saturday, April 5, at approximately 7:22 a.m., a DeKalb County police officer was injured in a crash on East Ponce de Leon Ave. between Rays Road and Hambrick Road. A third vehicle was involved. Investigators determined an eastbound driver tried to pass another vehicle by illegally going over a double-yellow line. In the process, investigators believe the at-fault driver hit the vehicle it was trying to pass, sending it into a tree. Then investigators say the at-fault driver hit the westbound DKPD officer head-on.

Commissioner Michelle Long Spears of DeKalb County District 2 is excited to announce the date and location of the second annual “State of DeKalb Animals” address. The address and luncheon will take place on May 16, 2025 at the newly remodeled Emory Conference Center Hotel. Attendees will hear multiple speakers as they update the community on the many ways that the Save Our DeKalb Animals Initiative has been able to further the animal welfare goals set forth by the DeKalb County Animal Services Advisory Board’s Plan for a Better Tomorrow. 

Chief Executive Officer Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has issued an Executive Order establishing a temporary freeze on new spending and hiring as a proactive measure to safeguard critical county services and financial resources amid uncertainty surrounding federal funding. The Executive Order, signed April 2, 2025, does not impact existing roles or programs already included in the Board of Commissioners’ approved FY2025 budget.
