Efforts to improve water service capacity throughout DeKalb County continue Monday, May 12, with the launch of the Harrington Drive Water Main Replacement Project. Crews will 9,500 linear feet of water lines with new 8-inch ductile iron pipe. This project is part of DeKalb County’s $4.27 billion capital improvement program to improve capacity and service of the watershed systems serving the community. This project is expected to last 12 months (May 2025 to April 2026), barring any weather delays.

On Wed., Mar.19, 2025, through Fri., May 16, 2025, Northview Avenue will be closed to through traffic from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. to facilitate the installation of sewer and storm tie-ins at 1901 Eastfield Street, Decatur, GA 30032. Road closure and detour signs will be placed in the area during the road closure period advising motorists of construction work in the area and of local traffic restrictions.

The DeKalb County Police Department (DKPD) will hold a one-stop hiring event on Saturday, May 3, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Tobie Grant Recreation Center, 593 Parkdale Drive, Scottdale, GA 30079. Recruit and certified officer positions are available. Candidates will have the opportunity to complete a large portion of the hiring process and walk away with a conditional offer.

DeKalb County CEO Lorraine Cochran-Johnson has announced the appointment of Tonza Clark as the new Director of Code Compliance and Enforcement. In this capacity, she will lead countywide efforts to enforce property maintenance standards and address quality-of-life issues through proactive code enforcement. As the former Code Compliance Administrator, she played a pivotal role in developing and implementing impactful legislation, including the creation of the DeKalb County Vacant and Foreclosure Property Registries.

Commissioner Michelle Long Spears of DeKalb County District 2 is pleased to announce that registration is now open for the second annual “State of DeKalb Animals” address and luncheon. The event will take place on May 16, 2025, at the newly remodeled Emory Conference Center Hotel, located at 1615 Clifton Road NE in Atlanta. Doors will open at 10:30 a.m., and lunch will be provided.
